Our work
The heart of our mission.
Explore the heart of our mission throughout this page where our team has dedicated and committed to safeguarding the Gatineau River and its surrounding ecosystem. Through water quality monitoring and testing to assess e-coli, nutrients, temperature and salt. Next is shoreline protection where we combat erosion while maintaining the natural beauty of the riverbanks. We have launched a project to help identify invasive species. We are also collaborating with municipalities and the MRC on river safety and etiquette. Our collaborative approach involves local communities promoting shared responsibility for the preservation of the resource.
What We’re Doing
WATER QUALITY
Ensuring clean, safe water for human recreation and the natural environment by testing the river for bacteria levels, etc.
SHORELINE PROTECTION
River water quality and ecosystem health depend on a natural shoreline providing shade and a habitat for diverse flora and fauna.
INVASIVE SPECIES AND BIODIVERSITY
Invasive species can be very difficult to contain once they are established. Once introduced, aquatic invasive species populations can grow quickly because they don’t have natural predators in their new environment.
RIVER SAFETY AND ETIQUETTE
Use of the river quickly increased by swimmers, floaters, paddlers, sailors, and powerboat enthusiasts. We must work together for safer and shared enjoyment of the river by all.
