On March 14th, 2022, the FOG board approved two, $2,000 donations ($4,000 in total) to ACRE (Action Chelsea for Respect of the Environment) for two of their land conservation projects in ecological corridors within the Gatineau River Watershed. The first donation was made to the Hundred Acre Wood in La Pêche – formerly known as the Minnes Lands – which is home to at-risk species, including western chorus frogs, monarch butterflies, and bobolink blackbirds, as well as eastern white cedars — rare in this area due to centuries of logging. The land has also been identified by the National Capital Commission as an important ecological corridor for wildlife moving throughout Gatineau Park. The second donation was made to the FORÊT Jolicœur-Mcmartin in Chelsea which is approximately 70 acres of forest and wetlands that includes key connector trails in the Larrimac ecological corridor. Both of these two locations are very important for the protection of our area’s biodiversity. FOG thanks ACRE for all the hard work in protecting our environment. As a note, FOG has also put aside $2000 for an appropriate project in Cantley.
